Mosaic of Brittany holiday pictures

The Gite's location

Our comfortable family holiday Gite is situated in the tranquil centre of rural Brittany near the D778 between the market town of Loudeac and historic medieval town of Josselin, as shown on this map of Brittany.

We're roughly 40 minutes drive from both the North and South Brittany coastlines, two miles from the nearest town of La Cheze where there's a number of shops and restaurants, and 10 miles from larger towns such as Josselin and Loudeac.

Driving in France

Driving is considerably easier than it is in the UK or Ireland (well, apart from driving on the wrong side of the road that is) with the roads being generally quieter and straighter. Brittany has the additional benefit of having no tolls on any of its autoroutes but there are the occasional fixed speed cameras (see the controleradar website for camera locations) and on-the-spot fines are charged if you're caught speeding.

To help you with the journey we've collected together a comprehensive set of Hints and Tips for driving in France with details of the key French motoring laws and 'rules of the road', speed limits and advice about taking your car to France, filling up at the petrol station, and common road signs you may see whilst driving in France.

How to get to our Brittany Holiday Gite

It's very easy to reach our Gite with a number of ferry and flight options available depending on where you live and whether you want to take your own car over or not.

The autoroutes of France are much much quieter than the UK motorways and so it's quite an easy to drive to the Gite from any of the French ports. It's basically a balance between choosing the amount of time you spend on the boat, and the amount of time driving - the nearest ferry port of St Malo offers a short 1½ hour drive in France to the Gite, but a longer boat crossing from the UK; compared to the Northern French ports such as Calais, Boulogne and Eurotunnel which have shorter (and cheaper) ferry crossings, but a comparatively longer drive.

Alternatively there are lots of different budget airline choices to fly to France from across the UK and Ireland; we've listed below those that land within a 3 hour drive of our holiday cottage:
